Clickable Newspapers

Google is experimenting with 2D bar codes - like the one shown on the left - in print (newspaper and magazine) ads. Part of Google's so-called Google Consumer Response Tag (CRT), 2D bar codes can hold much more information than traditional barcodes, including:
  • URLs, search terms,
  • phone numbers,
  • coupon codes, and
  • SMS code.
All of the information can be obtained by "clicking" on the bar code with a cell phone equipped with special software. Imagine using your cell phone to take a photo of a bar code in a restaurant ad and getting a map with the nearest location.
